Cala runs on your own computer. The documents you load, and everything Cala learns from them, stay on that computer. Nothing is uploaded to us, and we never have a copy.
The only things that leave your machine are the question you ask and the pages Cala reads to answer it. They go to the AI model through our proxy, and the proxy keeps nothing.
Builds
macOS
Needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 13 or newer.
Signed and notarized with Apple, so it opens without any warning.
Windows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
This build isn’t code-signed yet, so the first time you run it Windows shows a “Windows protected your PC” warning. Click More info, then Run anyway, and it installs.
Requirements
- At least 8 GB of RAM. 16 GB is better if you load a lot of documents.
- At least 2 GB of free disk space, more as your documents pile up.
- An internet connection while Cala is working on a question.
Have a manual ready
Before you open Cala for the first time, dig out the manual for your tool. The more complete and the higher-level, the better. A system manual that covers every subsystem gives Cala the shape of the whole machine. An error-code list on its own only teaches it a few parts.
Use PDFs with a real text layer where you can. Cala can read scans and phone photos, but it misreads them more often, and a misread number is the one mistake you really don’t want. Avoid it at the source.
Only load documents you’re allowed to use. Cala isn’t a way around your company’s document controls, and the terms say so plainly.
Whatever Cala tells you, check it against the OEM documentation and your standard procedures before you act on it.
Cala is decision support for a qualified engineer, not for automated control, interlocks or safety functions.
